Since the construction of the new airport in the 1970’s, Skiathos has grown in popularity as is now considered to be one of the premier destinations for travellers to Greece. The largest settlement on the island is Skiathos Town where visitors will find a variety of bars and tavernas, set around the old fishing harbour. The south of the island is home to a selection of pleasant villages set behind some of the island 60 plus sandy beaches, all accessible by the islands bus route which runs all the way from town to Koukounaries, arguably the island most famous beach and holder of a blue flag award.
For the more adventurous, quieter beaches can be found on the north side of the island and boat hire and excursions are available to discover the more inaccessible attractions of the island such as Lalaria and the island original settlement, Kastro. Paul Walters video.
